9-Year-Old Boy Convinces Whole Class To Walk Out After School Pulls Chocolate Milk From Menu

A 9-year-old boy in Vacaville, California recently convinced his whole class to walk out after school officials pulled chocolate milk from the lunch menu. Sierra Vista K-8 School student Jordan Reed staged a protest with his classmates — firing back against a 2020 decision to remove chocolate milk from menus across the district.

Reed says, “We used to have it; but then they just took it away.” So, all 26 students in Reed’s class took a stand last Friday (Feb. 4) and marched outside the school — and it worked! Reed said, “I felt good about it.  I brought back something that everybody wanted.”

District chef and culinary manager Richie Wilim says the cut was due to the milk’s high sugar content. But when meeting with the group of students, Reed argued that offering regular milk caused his classmates to drink less milk — leading to increased waste and students getting fewer calcium and vitamin D nutrients.
