88-Year-Old Crossing Guard Killed By Speeding Car While Protecting Children
Bob Nill, an 88-year-old school crossing guard, is being named a hero after giving his life to save two brothers (7 and 11) from a speeding car.
The guard, known locally as Mr. Bob, was struck by a black sedan yesterday morning, as he ushered children through his crosswalk at Christ the King Catholic School in Kansas City, Kansas.

Speaking on the tragic incident, Principal Cathy Fithian stated, “He gave his life so that others could live. He saved two young boys and he gave the ultimate sacrifice. We’re just so grateful that as tragic as it was that it wasn’t more tragic thanks to his selfless act.”
While paramedics rushed Nill to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries, the sedan’s driver was also taken in after remaining on the scene.

Describng Nill as a selfless guardian angel, Fithian also stated, “He brought them happiness with his smile. He waved at everyone, always waving and always visiting with the kids and parents.”
On Facebook, Kansas City Mayor David Alvey shared, “On behalf of the residents of Kansas City, Kansas, I offer our deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Nill. To Mr. Nill, our heartfelt gratitude for your selfless act in protection of our children.”
