A Texas boy accidentally received a COVID-19 vaccine at a local drive-up facility in Dallas, Texas.

The incident occurred at the vaccine facility in Grand Prairie after the boy’s father registered him for an appointment online. His doctor, Dr. Marcial Oquendo, said the man consulted him about his son getting the vaccine since he was able to get an appointment and assigned a QR code. He was under the assumption that ‘I submit his information and he got an appointment. And when he got an appointment, he was like, ‘we all got an appointment so let’s go,'” the pediatrician said. Currently, in the US, people 16 and over are eligible for the vaccine but it is unclear whether the vaccine is safe for children under the age of 16 as reported by the New York Post.
“We don’t have the data, especially under the age of 12 to say if it works, is it safe, how much should we use, which kid can get it and which kids can’t. It needs to be in a controlled setting of a clinical trial where we are monitoring every possible angle to be able to say if it’s safe and effective to use in kids in this age group.”
