Moments after the victim was pronounced dead, the Riverside police dispatch center received multiple reports from the victim’s neighbors, who claimed a transient woman walking through their yards was acting suspicious. Subsequently, police located and detained the woman, identified as 23-year-old Darlene Stephanie Montoya of Monterey Park. Police reports says Meng was walking her two small dogs when “randomly confronted and attacked” by Montoya, who immediately fled after the stabbing. Montoya is now booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center — where she is being held without bail, and charged with murder, weapons violation, and suspicion of being under the influence of an illegal substance.
