50 Cent Says Will Smith’s 10-Year Oscars Ban Is ‘Too Harsh’ As Fans React To Academy’s Decision

50 Cent does not agree with the Academy’s decision to ban Will Smith from the Oscars for 10 years after the infamous debacle during last month’s awards ceremony.

As fans will recall, the King Richard star left fans in shock when he got out of his seat at the prestigious event and slapped Chris Rock for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair.

While it was later claimed that the comedian had no idea Jada had been battling alopecia — a medical condition that causes the hair to shed — Will wasn’t amused as he returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth.”

An official statement given by Academy president David Rubin on Friday said that Will’s actions were “unacceptable and harmful,” resulting in him being banned from the awards show for a decade starting April 8.

Responding to the news of Will’s lengthy suspension, 50 Cent wasted no time taking to his official Twitter page to share his thoughts on the matter, saying the Academy was “doing Will dirty.”

“Got Damn they doing Will dirty. This is too harsh so he cant come back till he 63 years old,” he tweeted. “And the law suit ain’t even hit yet. SMH”

And 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, wasn’t the only person feeling like not including Will at the Oscars for 10 years was a rather drastic decision. Fans weighed in with their thoughts, echoing similar words made by the Power executive producer.

“This is some excessive, performative nonsense in trying to make an example of Will Smith while ACTUAL wrongdoers in the industry still have careers,” one frustrated fan wrote on Twitter following the news that Will won’t be able to attend or be nominated for another Oscar for at least 10 years.

And who knows if he’ll even be considered for a nomination by that time, let alone whether he’ll still be acting.

Another person took to social media to lash out at the Academy’s announcement, implying that there are men in Hollywood who’ve done much worse than Will, yet they were never served with a 10-year ban.

“Excuse me? Will Smith is banned from attending Oscars ceremony and Academy events for 10 Years?” the Twitter user wrote.

“What about men who are actual predators who are still glorified by the Academy? It makes me sick.”

The father-of-three has since given a statement of his own after news broke of his ban, telling PEOPLE, “I accept and rest the Academy’s decision.”
