The incident took place Saturday afternoon when the swimmers were exposed to the chemicals at the park. According to Harris County Judge Lina Hildalgo, the chemicals were leaked into a kid’s pool, and the lifeguard because sick. Moments later, other people became sick due to the fumes and caused respiratory issues.

“Eventually it became very clear that there was something either in the environment or the water that was making these children sick, these families sick.”

The waterpark was evacuated and closed down by Spring Firefighters after they gathered the 60 individuals who were affected by the chemicals. Additionally, they believe the chemicals that were leaked into the pool were sulfuric acid and bleach but they do not believe it was intentional.

Currently, an investigation is underway as noted by Six Flags officials.

“The safety of our guests and team member is always our highest priority and the park was immediately cleared as we try to determine a cause.”
