The tragic incident sparked outrage in the community and online. Police in Philadelphia said 30 officers were injured during “violent protests” Monday night. While some officers claim they were injured with rocks, bricks and other projectiles, a 56-year-old female officer was reportedly hit by a pickup truck early Tuesday and hospitalized with a broken leg, WCAU-TV reported. According to CBS News, Philadelphia Police Sergeant Eric Gripp said the officer is in stable condition. The pickup was found nearby, unoccupied, he added.
It was also said that the 29 other officers were treated and released at hospitals after being hit by thrown rocks and bricks. Authorities reported more than 30 arrests from the protest and riots.
