3 MTA Workers Suspended After ‘Secret Man Cave’ Is Discovered Below Grand Central Terminal
After an anonymous tip, at least three MTA workers have been suspended after a “secret man cave” was discovered below New York City’s Grand Central Terminal at Track 114.
Authorities say a wireman, a carpenter foreman and an electrical foreman have all been suspended without pay, pending resolution of disciplinary cases after it was discovered that they converted a storage room into a private “man cave;” complete with a futon, TV, exercise equipment, fridge and beds.

In a statement, MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny says, “Many a New Yorker has fantasized about kicking back with a cold beer in a prime piece of Manhattan real estate – especially one this close to good transportation. But few would have the chutzpah to commandeer a secret room beneath Grand Central Terminal & make it their very own man-cave, sustained with MTA resources, and maintained at our riders’ expense.”
Pokorny’s office says the secret lair was hidden behind a locked door inside a larger storage room, and that station management had no idea the room physically existed. In addition to disciplinary action being investigated, Metro-North Security, who failed to take steps to investigate the room initially, is working to create a map of all the rooms in Grand Central, and how they’re all locked.
