A Pennsylvania family is searching for answers after their 22-year-old son was fatally shot by a police officer after allegedly going to the wrong house while intoxicated.
According to 6ABC, Glenn Pysher had been celebrating a friend’s birthday at a local bar before the group continued the celebration at another friend’s home. Pysher’s parents said their son decided to walk from the bar to the residence but mistakenly arrived at the wrong address.
“He ended up at the wrong house after having a few drinks. He didn’t know that, so he was knocking on the door saying, ‘Hey, let me in,’ thinking it was his friend’s house, but it wasn’t,” his mother told the station.
Homeowners Called 911 After Late-Night Encounter
Authorities said the homeowners, who were inside the residence in Upper Pottsgrove, were alarmed by the unexpected visitor and called 911 shortly after midnight.
Pysher’s mother said the events unfolded within minutes.
“12:32, he was on the phone with his friends. By 12:35, I believe he’s already shot,” she said. “So, within a few minutes, the cop pulled up and shot him. He was unarmed. He had a cell phone and a book bag.”
According to his family, Pysher was not carrying a weapon at the time of the shooting.
Surveillance Video Captured the Shooting
Surveillance footage reportedly captured the encounter between Pysher and the responding officer.
Authorities have not publicly explained what led the officer to open fire, and officials have not released additional details about the moments leading up to the shooting. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
