Breonna Taylor’s Mom Seeking ‘Real justice’ 1 Year Later: ‘They Should Be Held Accountable’
This Saturday officially marks a year since Breonna Taylor was killed by Louisville Metro Police Officers during a raid at her west Louisville apartment. The Black 26-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, who was an emergency medical technician studying to become a nurse, was shot multiple times in her home by officers serving a no-knock warrant as part of a narcotics investigation into another man. No drugs were found in her home, and the case fueled nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism.

The city agreed to pay Taylor’s family $12 million but her mother says that’s not enough as no officers have been charged in her daughter’s death. Tamika Palmer spoke with CNN, telling the outlet that she will never give up her fight to see the officers criminally charged.
She said “It can’t end here. I’m still out here, I’m still doing what I need to do to get justice for Breonna to make sure that people do right by her.”
Her mother also sat down with WLKY ahead of that day and was asked what sort of emotions come up now, after everything that has happened: “Anger. Still, just like, I can’t believe it’s a year later and we’re still just asking people to do the right thing,” she said.
As we previously reported, only one officer was indicted for what happened that night. No one was charged in her actual death.
Palmer says she feels like the system failed Breonna.
