The 2024 CNN Presidential Debate is off to a heated start as former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden argue about the abortion law Roe v. Wade, which was overturned in Trump’s presidency.
On Thursday evening (June 27), CNN hosted a 2024 Presidential Debate between Trump and Biden, who first went head-to-head in the 2020 Presidential Election.
During Thursday night’s debate, both Donald Trump and Joe Biden argued their points of view on abortion and the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Essentially, Trump is proud to have ended Roe v. Wade. Previously, the Joe Biden campaign claimed Donald Trump not only looks to have medical professionals “punished” for carrying out abortions, but women as well. He made headlines for these claims earlier this year and within the last few years, claiming states should have the right to punish pregnant women for seeking out abortion care.
His argument was that he wanted to give the states and the people back their right to decide, which is why he federally eradicated the law. He further claimed that Democrats “support abortion up to and even beyond the ninth month,” and claimed that some Democratic states have had such a stance.
However, Joe Biden countered that Democrats have never advocated for killing a baby after it is born, which is murder and illegal in every state. The instances Trump appears to be referring to are when medical professionals alert women that their child will not survive after birth. Biden further stood firm on giving women the right to do what they want with their bodies, while legal.
Biden looks to restore Roe v. Wade, believing women must be trusted. He said he would veto any GOP abortion ban if re-elected. While Trump believes overturning Roe v. Wade was “a great thing,” Biden slammed Trump for having it overturned and told him it’s a “terrible thing” that he’s done.
