As scheduled, the ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles after pushing back their original February 2021 date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason for the pushback was due to the Academy expecting movie theatres to be opening in the spring so more films can enter their respective categories.
However, safety protocols regarding attendees at the 3,400-seat theatre has yet to be announced. A source told Variety that “The Academy has done a walkthrough of the Dolby recently to see all the multiple options.”

The date for films to submit their entries has been extended from Dec. 31 to Feb.28. Currently, it is unclear how many people will attend the in-person ceremony especially veteran actors who are over the age of 65. There are also four other major award ceremonies that will take place before the Oscars which are The Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, and BAFTAs but it unclear if those events will be virtual or in-person.
