2-Month-Old Baby Dies From Coronavirus

A two-month-old baby has sadly passed away Michigan from complications caused by the Coronavirus.

Officials from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported that the baby is the youngest known victim to pass away from the virus.

MDHHS noted that the state is “fortunate enough to have had only one death of a child under age 1” due to the novel Coronavirus.

“Our thoughts are with the family, which has experienced a terrible loss,” MDHHS said in a statement. “It is a sad reminder that children are not immune from COVID-19.”

CME Dr. Joneigh Khaldun revealed the news while speaking on multi-system inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). The disease typically becomes present after children come in contact with COVID-19.

“Studies show that while children are less likely to get severely ill from COVID-19, they still can,” Khaldun said per The Detroit News. “And they can also pass it on to others including adults who are more likely to get sick or ill from COVID-19.”

Parents are urged to seek immediate treatment if the child has trouble breathing, pain or pressure in the chest that does not go away, new confusion, inability to wake or stay awake, bluish lips or face, or abdominal pain.
