A 14-year-old girl has died after reportedly undergoing breast augmentation surgery in Durango, Mexico, without her father’s knowledge. Authorities say the procedure was performed by her mother’s plastic surgeon boyfriend.
The Death Of Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo
According to the New York Post, Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo died on Saturday after slipping into a coma caused by brain swelling and heart complications following the procedure a week earlier. Her father, Carlos Arellano, was initially told that his daughter had died from COVID-19 complications. He later discovered the truth during her funeral.
“At the funeral, some relatives told me her breasts were larger than what she had before, and when I mentioned it to her mother, she told me it wasn’t true, that she didn’t know anything,” Carlos told prosecutors.
The Cover-Up Allegations
In his complaint, Carlos said he had his ex’s relatives leave the room so he could examine his daughter’s body. He took photographs as evidence and demanded an autopsy. During the investigation, he learned that his ex-wife approved the surgery and her boyfriend, identified only as Victor N., performed it. Authorities allege the pair lied to cover up the procedure.
Mexico’s law requires that both parents give consent for any surgical procedure on a patient under 18.
Investigation And Legal Fallout
The plastic surgeon’s medical license has since been suspended as investigators review malpractice and other potential charges. Officials say the final autopsy results will determine the full scope of the case.
A Father’s Fight For Justice
Carlos Arellano says he was deceived by both his ex-wife and her partner and is demanding accountability for his daughter’s death. The case has sparked outrage in Mexico, raising concerns about medical ethics, parental rights, and underage cosmetic procedures.
