Despite the coronavirus pandemic and being in a high-risk group, 102-year-old Bea Lumpkin of Chicago cast her mail-in ballot while wearing personal protective equipment, saying that if she can vote, everyone can and should! The Chicago Teachers Union, of which she was a member, shared her image which has now gone viral.

While speaking with ABC’s “Good Morning America this week, Lumpkin, a retired teacher, talked about her recent experience and why it was important for her to make her vote count. “I think that in this election more than any other that I’ve taken part in, the only way we can answer it is for the people to come out and vote and stay active to a degree we’ve never seen before.” Chicago began accepting mail-in ballots Sept. 24. The great-grandmother said she said believes this election is very important because of the impact it will have on future generations. “I have a lot of confidence in the young people,” she told ABC. However, Lumpkin, who has voted consistently since 1940 noted that if she can do it, “nobody should have an excuse” for not voting.

As the news site notes, most swing-state voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus, and prefer Biden and Democrats to handle the outbreak.
