102-Year-Old Woman In Italy Recovers From COVID-19
Following a 20-day stint in a Genoa, Italy hospital, a 102-year-old woman has made an incredible recovery after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
In early March, the woman, identified as Italica Grondona, found herself in the hospital with mild heart failure. Her doctor, Vera Sicbaldi says, “She only had some mild coronavirus symptoms, so we tested her and she was positive, but we did very little, she recovered on her own.”

While the virus has proven deadly for nearly 11,000 Italians, many elderly, Grondona’s recovery gives others hope; and has given her a new nickname. Sicbaldi adds, “We nicknamed her ‘Highlander’ — the immortal.” Doctors also believe that given her age, it’s very possible that Grondona may’ve also survived the 1918 Spanish Flu.
Sicbaldi adds, “We got serological samples, she is the first patient we know that might have gone through the ‘Spanish flu’ since she was born in 1917.”

Additionally, Grondona’s nephew, Renato Villa Grondona, says her lifestyle could’ve played a huge role in her recovery; claiming, she loves to dance and listening to music. He says, “I don’t know what her secret is, but I know she is a free and independent woman.”
