One person is dead after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded at the entrance of a Trump Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day, with the incident being investigated as a possible terror attack.

According to Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill, a vehicle fire was reported at a Trump Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas just after 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday (January 1).
McMahill reported that emergency crews arrived to find a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck engulfed in flames and that one person was dead, with at least seven other victims injured. He said they sustained “minor” injuries as a result of the explosion. Authorities also reported that fireworks, gas tanks, and camping fuel were connected to the detonation system controlled by the drier of the Cybertruck. Subsequently, the incident is being investigated as a possible terrorist/terror attack.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Schwartz, Acting Special Agent in charge of the FBI in Las Vegas, also confirmed that his team is involved in the investigation of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded in front of the Trump Hotel and Casino. Additionally, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo also reported that his office is coordinating with authorities and will ensure they have any necessary resources available. On X, he wrote on X, “My office is coordinating with @LVMPD and partner agencies on this incident response, and we will continue to ensure they have all necessary resources available.”
According to authorities, the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded at the entrance of a Trump Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was rented on the car rental company app Turo — the same company that rented a pickup truck to the deceased driver in the New Orleans New Year’s terror attack early Wednesday morning.

Subsequently, investigators are now determining if there is any connection between the Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion and the truck rampage in New Orleans.
Elsewhere, X and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has since taken to his account on X to report, “We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.” He also responded to reports about the Las Vegas and New Orleans incidents possibly being connected.
