Russian TV Station Under Fire After Airing Skit With Woman In Blackface As Obama

A Russian TV station is currently under fire after airing a skit with a white woman in blackface portraying former US President Barack Obama.

Over on Russia’s NTV channel, a satirical show called ‘Mezhdunarodnaya Pilorama’ — or ‘International Sawmill’ aired a skit, which included about a good 90 seconds worth of racism. Featured in the clip is a white woman donning blackface, wearing a red bandaana, multiple chains around her neck, black gloves and an oversized t-shirt.

During the skit — which includes the host, Tigran Keosayan, tossing us to the woman in blackface, portraying Obama, stating, “We now go live to the dark side of America’s history, Barack Obama — we mostly hear Russian. But at one point, we clearly hear three words in English, mentioning the political and social movement: Black Lives Matter. After this mention, the host says, “Can you please stop shouting? We don’t have racism. You could be taken for a gypsy.”

Additionally, in the clip there’s also a reference to 44’s recently released memoir, which includes the blackface actress to describe the book as an achievement because “none of my relatives that came before me could write.”
