Over the weekend, a heartbreaking incident occurred within the family of boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. His son, DeAndre, tragically passed away from suicide.
Jones Jr. released a statement to his Instagram on Monday to share the heartbreaking news. “Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday.” He also revealed that he got a chance to spend time with his family the night before his passing.

“I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family,” he added. “I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and God should be the one to take it away.”
DeAndre Jones was following in his father’s footsteps and making a name for himself in the boxing world. Born on July 1, 1992, DeAndre grew up surrounded by the sport of boxing and was exposed to the discipline and dedication it takes to succeed in the ring. From a young age, he showed a natural talent for the sport and began training under his father’s guidance.
Like his father, DeAndre possessed incredible hand speed and footwork, making him a formidable opponent in the ring. He quickly made a name for himself in the amateur boxing circuit, racking up an impressive record of wins and earning the respect of his peers and coaches, so it’s sad to hear something this tragic has taken place.
